I was there covered in ash at this time 45 years ago... We had no cell phones. I had red cross call me in at work telling them I'm fine and won't be in on Monday. We were stranded in a little town called Vantage. We were in the Yakima Valley. Thought we would go East away from the mountain. I guess we weren't far enough away.
Nope! The roads were covered! Rock climbing was good on the East side of the state. Weather was always good and dry. It was beautiful on the west side that day too. Oh well! What a memory!
