Well, IMHO, I never really associated with people that were democrats. I put up with them but I never brought them into my circle of people. I feel a story coming on...
Once upon a time I went with a couple on a cruse. I also went to the opera. This time on a cruse, I worked with a fellow that married another fellow. I have no problem with that. People can do what the heck they want to. As long as I'm not treated differently for my strait religious upbringing. Besides these two were republicans. Interesting no?
One of them lived in Cuba and their family had everything taken from them by the commie regime. He wanted nothing to do with socialism, commies. However they had other friends on this cruse... It was an afternoon deal on Lake Washington.
As I made my way around with my husband, to get to know some of the others. I found them to be fake, and thinking they are better than everyone else. I went back to the hosts of this gathering and found that only 4 of us were republican. Well no wonder I felt at odds with everyone. I could spot the weirdness.
I said to one of our fiends, so you two think these people are just great? The one from Cuba said, 'what ya gonna do, they support the arts and have money. Since he was heavily into opera. These people thought they were the cat's meow. I was praying for the cruse to end.
The conversations were about class, and everyone was a shrink! One had a bogus doctorate, that was the older person. However the younger people at the time my age were living in a basement of their parents, friend's that did well, or renting a cheap room. I got into a bit of an awkward situation by saying I had two jobs for 16 years. When I said that I was in my 20th year of the work force. I was treated like a pariah for the rest of the cruse. It didn't matter that I had my own home at 22. It didn't matter after that at all. I felt like I was in high school again and I knew all the groups and had nothing to do with any of them. Thank heavens for my hubby. What better person to hang around with!
Hubby and I climbed mountains, so yeah, we did see Rainer in the background. I turned to him and said, within earshot of these fake people around us.... Remember when we claimed that snow covered rock to the top? Oh they wanted to know about that! Asked if I climbed overseas? Yes I have! Even did a rescue. Kept it short and right back at them! I quickly turned to my hubby with my back to them, to continue the reminiscing of the rout of that climb. How we never climbed it from camp Muir. That is where all the paid rope teams of beginners climbed.
I didn't tell them how many times, I climbed that mountain, nor, all the classic climbs in the state of Washington! They got that hint with my cold answer. Not really telling them where, daring them to ask. These people were the most miserable, dull people, I have ever encountered!
Anyway had to get that out there. Oh, I was asked to go again the following year. All I could do was laugh, then say, no thank you!
